Grace and Matt’s Bridal Barn wedding was a perfect fun-filled summer wedding celebration. Set within the Shropshire countryside, Bridal Barn provided the perfect backdrop for the most incredible day.
With an outdoor ceremony, a relaxed wedding breakfast in the converted barn and an evening of speeches, drinks and dancing in the courtyard, their wedding was full of personality, laughter, and lots of unforgettable moments.
They chose my 10-hour full day wedding photography package, allowing me to capture their day from final morning preparations, through to dance floor shenanigans, and everything in between!
As a documentary wedding photographer, my approach is all about capturing the real moments of a wedding day naturally and unobtrusively, whilst still making time for the group photographs and couples portraits that some couples want.

Bridal Barn Wedding Venue
Located in Claverley, Bridgenorth, Bridal Barn is a beautiful woodland wedding venue, tucked away in the Shropshire countryside.
The thing that immediately struck me, is just how remote it feels. Once you turn off the main road, and follow the long, tree-lined and winding driveway towards the venue, it feels like you’re entering a completely private corner of the Shropshire countryside. This makes Bridal Barn particularly appealing to couples looking for a wedding venue that feels secluded, whilst still offering the “wow” factor for guests as they arrive, in an understated way.
One of the things I particularly like about Bridal Barn (aside from its setting!) is its versatility, and the ability for couples to divide the day between different areas of the venue, giving each part its own atmosphere, whilst allowing the day to flow naturally.
For their wedding, Grace and Matt exchanged vows on the hill surrounded by woodland, enjoyed their family-style wedding breakfast inside the former hay barn, before moving into the courtyard for speeches, drinks and dancing!
Bride and Groom preparations at Bridal Barn
I arrived at Bridal Barn around an hour before the ceremony, giving me enough time to photograph some of the final preparations and atmosphere building, before the main event!
I started with the groom and his groomsmen, capturing mostly candid photographs as Matt prepared for the ceremony, and welcomed guests as they arrived.
I then headed over to the bridal lounge to see Grace making her final finishing touches, along with her bridesmaids, which made for some fun, candid moments. These un-staged moments are some of my favourite moments to photograph, as they are a mixture of excitement, happy tears and laughter, which make for some fun moments to photograph.
Outdoor ceremony at Bridal Barn
Grace and Matt chose to host their outdoor wedding ceremony at Bridal Barn, up on the hill, overlooking the surrounding countryside.
The elevated position gives the ceremony area some fantastic views, with the surrounding woodland creating a natural backdrop.
The pops of red in the wedding flowers, and outfits looked particularly striking against the deep greens of the trees and countryside. Whilst the sun was shining, and the temperature was pleasant, the wind definitely made its presence known!
One of the great things about this location from a wedding photography perspective, is the freedom it gives to move around discreetly. I was able to photograph the ceremony from different angles, without getting in the way, allowing me to capture plenty of natural, documentary-style photographs.
After Grace and Matt exchanged vows, they made their exit from the ceremony area through a shower of confetti, before heading back to the barn, where their guests could re-join them.
Group Wedding Photos at Bridal Barn
Although my photography style is predominantly documentary, I know that group wedding photographs are important for most couples. Once everyone had made their way back down the hill, and had the opportunity to congratulate the newlyweds, I gathered everyone together in front of the barn doors.
I always try to make this part of the day as efficient as possible, and starting with the largest group means we can work through the combinations quickly, allowing guests to get back to the drinks reception, and importantly the refreshments!
Relaxed Couples Portraits at Bridal Barn
We had initially planned to do couples portraits, immediately after the group photos. However, as the timeline had drifted slightly we decided to leave these until later in the evening, which meant that Grace and Matt could get back to what mattered most - celebrating with their family and friends!
Later in the day, we found around 20-30 minutes to head out together and make some relaxed wedding couples portraits around Bridal Barn, which worked out great!
Although we didn’t get an incredible sunset, the venue still provided plenty of beautiful surroundings to work with, resulting in some gorgeous photographs together. I always encourage my couples to enjoy this moment of calm as newlyweds, before they return to the party, and get back on it!
Candid Wedding Photography at Bridal Barn
For me, the candid photographs are what really bring a wedding gallery to life, and Grace and Matt’s day had everything I love about documentary wedding photography - genuine emotion, silly moments, big laughs, quiet interactions, happy tears and plenty of dancing!
Ultimately, these are the photographs that help you remember how your wedding day actually felt - not just what it looked like. Rather than creating a day around a photoshoot, I want my couples to enjoy their wedding, and have the most amazing time with the people they love. My role is to observe and document these moments naturally, not create them.
Bridal Barn offers a fantastic setting for this approach, with its mixture of woodland, countryside, outdoor spaces, and rustic barn interiors, there was plenty of opportunity for me to document the day creatively and authentically. And when you combine this with an amazing couple, and great guests, it leads to a great day of photography, and I can’t wait to return again soon!
