Thorpe Garden Wedding Photography - Chris and Megan's Summer Wedding

Grant Archer July 23, 2026

Chris and Megan’s beautiful Thorpe Garden wedding was the perfect summer celebration. Set within the stunning Staffordshire countryside, their day featured an outdoor ceremony, sunshine from start to finish, and one of the most unique wedding venues in the Midlands area.

They chose my 10-hour full-day wedding photography package, allowing me to capture everything from the excitement and controlled chaos of morning preparations through to the evening celebrations. From the big moments to the quiet in-between memories, every part of their wedding day was documented naturally and authentically.

“From the moment Grant arrived, it was clear we had made the right choice. He worked tirelessly from start to finish, never missing an opportunity to capture the special moments that made our day so memorable. His energy, professionalism and attention to detail were outstanding throughout.”

Thorpe Garden Wedding Venue

Nestled within the picturesque Thorpe Estate in Staffordshire, Thorpe Garden is an exclusive-use wedding venue surrounded by a beautiful two-acre Victorian walled garden.

Thorpe Garden Wedding Venue

One of the things I loved about photographing this wedding at Thorpe Garden is the variety the venue offers. Couples can choose between the contemporary ceremony room, the handcrafted wooden yurt, or the stunning outdoor ceremony space, with every corner of the venue offering fantastic opportunities for a day of natural documentary wedding photography, plus plenty of contingency options should the unpredictable British weather takes a turn!

The venue accommodates up to 140 guests for wedding ceremonies and up to 200 guests for evening celebrations, making it ideal for most wedding celebrations.

As luck would have it, the June summer sunshine featured throughout Chris and Megan’s wedding day. They chose to exchange vows outdoors, before celebrating with their wedding breakfast and evening reception inside the unique air-conditioned yurt—a welcome retreat from the summer heat!

Bridal & Groom Preparations at Thorpe Garden

Megan spent the morning getting ready at The Glam Room, a stylish beauty studio just moments from Thorpe Garden. With its bright, airy interior and plenty of natural light, it was the perfect space for relaxed bridal preparation photographs, and an opportunity to showcase her beautiful wedding dress (sourced from Wed2b) and flowers (supplied by Perfect Day Wedding Flowers).

Meanwhile, Chris and his groomsmen got ready at Constantine House, a beautifully restored Victorian boutique property located within the Thorpe Estate. It’s an excellent accommodation option for couples and guests, while also providing elegant surroundings for those all-important morning photographs.

Outdoor Civil Ceremony at Thorpe Garden

Chris and Megan chose to hold their civil ceremony on the lawn in front of the charming summer house, just outside the Victorian walled garden. Bathed in warm June sunshine, it created an unforgettable backdrop as they exchanged their vows.

After the ceremony, we organised a confetti tunnel before moving straight into the family group photographs within the walled gardens.

Top Tip: For the best confetti photographs, take your time, walk slowly and enjoy the moment! Guests should throw confetti high into the air rather than directly at the couple for much more natural and dramatic images!

Group Wedding Photos at Thorpe Garden

Thorpe Garden offers no shortage of beautiful locations for group photographs, making it a fantastic Staffordshire wedding venue to photograph.

Whenever possible, I like to include an elevated group photograph of all guests as it gives the best chance for everyone to be visible in the photograph. Fortunately, the venue has a small cottage overlooking the grounds, which allowed me to nip upstairs, once I had arranged everyone on the lawn.

Although my style is primarily documentary, I know how important family photographs are - so always consult my couples on these ahead of the big day, but recommend limiting these group photographs to around five or six combinations, so couples can spend more time enjoying their day with family and friends, which also leads to better, more authentic photographs of their day,.

“One thing that really impressed us was how effortlessly he organised everyone for the group photos. Anyone who’s been to a wedding knows how difficult it can be to gather large groups of people, but Grant did it with confidence, efficiency and good humour, keeping everything running smoothly while making everyone feel relaxed.”

Candid Wedding Photography at Thorpe Garden

As a documentary wedding photographer, my priority is capturing the genuine moments that unfold naturally throughout your wedding day. Rather than constantly directing or interrupting moments, I quietly observe, allowing real emotions and authentic interactions to happen naturally.

From emotional reactions during the ceremony to hugs, happy tears and spontaneous moments on the dance floor, these are the memories that truly tell the story of your day. They’re the fleeting, in-between moments you’ll treasure for years to come because they remind you not just of how your wedding looked, but exactly how it felt.

Thorpe Garden is a fantastic venue for this style of photography. Its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful gardens and open spaces allow guests to mingle naturally, creating countless opportunities for genuine, unposed photographs that capture the real spirit of your celebration.

“Throughout the day he seemed to be everywhere at once, quietly capturing all the natural moments while also making sure we got every important shot we wanted. ”
— Chris and Megan

Couples Portraits at Thorpe Garden

Whilst the guests were enjoying cocktail hour in the sunshine, I whisked Chris and Megan away for some couples portraits. It’s important that my couples feel relaxed, so we start with a walk, where I’ll take photographs, and give some gentle direction along the way - but I don’t insist on awkward posing, to ensure your day is documented authentically. I was keen for the couple to get back to their guests (and to enjoy some refreshment!), so we only spent around 25 minutes, as I knew we’d also be able to grab another window later in the evening, before the sun sets.

Wedding Breakfast & Evening Reception in the Yurt

The handcrafted wooden yurt hosted both the wedding breakfast and evening reception, seamlessly transforming from dining space to dance floor.

As a Thorpe Garden wedding photographer, I particularly enjoyed working inside the yurt because of its beautiful natural light during the day and warm atmosphere in the evening. It creates a fantastic setting for candid photographs, speeches and first dances.

Once the room turnaround was complete, additional evening guests arrived to continue the celebrations. Entertainment came from the brilliant Mark Tolliss on DJ duties, while Tailored Booths kept guests entertained with plenty of photo booth fun throughout the evening. Their beautiful wedding cake was supplied by The Real Cake Company.

A Perfect Summer Wedding at Thorpe Garden

Chris and Megan’s wedding had everything you could hope for—a beautiful venue, glorious weather, relaxed atmosphere and two wonderful people surrounded by family and friends.

It was a genuine pleasure to capture their day, and I wish them both a lifetime of happiness together!

“Now that my wife and I have seen the finished photos, we can honestly say they’re absolutely fantastic. He has captured the atmosphere, emotion and joy of the day perfectly, giving us memories that we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives.

We can’t thank Grant enough for everything he did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a talented, hardworking and genuinely dedicated wedding photographer.”
